Neither the Manitoba Scholastic Chess Association nor the event host will be held responsible for the safety or behaviour of participants not actively engaged in tournament play. The responsibility of the tournament organizers will be limited to ensuring fair competition in accordance with Manitoba Scholastic Chess Association tournament rules.

Regular Scholastic Chess Tournament #4

Sunday, January 19, 2025

Open to all students from kindergarten to grade 12 (both new and experienced). The tournament will be rated by Chess'n Math - all students will receive an official chess rating.

Location: University of Manitoba - St. Paul's, 70 Dysart Road, Winnipeg MB

Room: Belltower Café (basement)

Registration: Entries will be capped at 78 students.

At the playing site between 12:00pm-12:45pm OR

Pre-register to secure a spot - this includes sending the $20 registration fee by etransfer to etransfer@scholasticchess.mb.ca Include the student's name and grade and tournament name in the etransfer note. Etransfers are non-refundable.

Registration will also take place at the playing site between 12:00pm-12:45pm if we still have room

Entry fee: $20.00 (cash or eTransfer)

Format: Students will be divided into groups of 6 by rating. Each group plays a round robin tournament (5 games - NO knockouts). We will start round 1 at 1:00pm (sharp). The tournament is usually over by 4:00pm.

Time control: The top groups will use clocks with 25 minutes each (5 second delay). The remaining groups will have a clock added with 10 minutes each (5 second delay) after 25 minutes has elapsed in their game.

Prizes: Medals will be awarded to the winner in each group. Ribbons will be awarded to all runner-ups.

Manitoba Scholastic Provincial Chess Championships

All students from grades 1 to 12 play on this date.

Location: University of Manitoba, University Center, Multi-Purpose Room #210 - 65 Chancellors Circle, Winnipeg, MB

Only those who have registered and paid the registration fee can take part.

Entry fee:
Registration fee early bird on or before March 2, 2025: $30.00
Regular registration fee (or at the door if we still have room): $40.00
The event will be capped at 150 entries.

Format: This event is played by grade. Each grade will play a round robin or Swiss tournament (5 games - NO knockouts).
Registered students must arrive between 9:00am to 9:45am to sign in the day of the tournament.

Time control: Clocks will be used from grades 3 to 12 (as there are enough clocks starting with the highest grades) with 25 minutes each (5 second delay). The remaining groups will have a clock added with 10 minutes each (5 second delay) after 40 minutes has elapsed in their game. We will show anyone who is unfamiliar with a clock how to use one.

Prizes: Championship trophies will be awarded to the top 3 winners in each grade. Ties for each place will be decided using playoffs.
