The Canadian Chess Challenge is the national scholastic chess tournament for grades 1 to 12. On March 12, 2017, the Manitoba Provincial Chess Championships will be held for grades 1 to 12 at the University of Manitoba, University College, Great Hall. At these Provincial championships, students will play to determine who will represent Manitoba at the national level for each grade. At the national level, provincial representatives from across Canada play to be crowned the national champion for their grade. The first Championship was held in 1989. This year will be the 29th edition of the Chess Challenge and will be held in Toronto, Ontario during the May long weekend of 2017.

The Canadian Chess Challenge is open to any student in grades 1 to 12. Registration can be done on-line. The registration fee is $25.00 per student. There are NO registration fees accepted after March 5, 2017.

The winners in each grade at the Manitoba Provincial tournaments will qualify for the national Chess Challenge during the May long weekend of 2017.
